Monument to the Patriots of Ukraine

On August 24, 2016, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, in the village of Kompaniivka Kropyvnytskyi district Kirovograd region, was solemnly opened, the first Monument to the Patriots of Ukraine erected in, dedicated to all Ukrainians who, without sparing themselves, defend the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The funds for its construction, which amounted to almost a million hryvnias, were collected by the village community, farmers and businessmen associated with Kompaniivka region.
The first contribution to the general moneybox in the amount of 100 hryvnias was made by 85-year-old retired teacher Olena Balashova, a woman who also took part in the opening of the monument.
Built at the intersection of two roads, it symbolizes the idea that the entire people of the country rose to fight for Ukraine - from the East and the West, the South, the North and the Center.
The idea of creating the monument, the content embedded in it, belongs to the members of the inter-district charitable volunteer organization "Victory" (the head of the organization in the Kompaniivka district is Oleksandr Voronyi): honoring fellow patriots, people who support the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the power of devotion, enthusiasm and respect for servicemen.
Monument to the Patriots of Ukraine was made by order of the local community by three architects from the Lviv Academy of Arts: Volodymyr Tsisaryk, Vasyl Zdrenyk and Pavlo Bodnar.
The pedestal is a triptych consists of three granite sculptures, to which a stair lead.
The first step - the first figure (facing west) embodies the image of a fighter for democratic independence, someone who laid down his soul and life on Independence Square for our country. The prototype of the fighter was a fellow countryman from the former Bobrynetskyi district, who was one of the first participants of the Heavenly Hundred who died on Independence Square - Chmilenko Viktor.
The second step - the second figure (facing south) is a female volunteer who froze for a moment with bread and a jug of water - symbolizes life - support for the defenders, both on the square and on the battlefield. The prototype was a volunteer from Lviv region Ivanna.
The third step - the third figure (facing north) is a peaceful warrior who, with his hand on his heart, with a lowered machine gun, looks into the distance with faith in a peaceful future, demonstrating his readiness to defend his native land and its people. The prototype was the cyborg of the 3rd regiment, a participant in hostilities - the defender of the Donetsk airport, a resident of the village of Kompaniivka Kuts Vitaliy.
The three-tiered structure of the monument symbolizes faith in justice, hope for goodness and the love of the people for their native land. It is a symbol of the new Ukraine, today's Ukraine, the future, which is breaking out of the old nets.
The figures on the monument reflect the feat of the patriots of Ukraine for its independence, sovereignty and democracy.
On the eastern side of the monument are engraved the words of T. Shevchenko: "Fight on – and win the fight! God helps you in your need! For you is right, for you is might, and freedom’s holy meed!".
The monument ends with the highest point - the peak, on which stands the coat of arms of Ukraine - a trident, symbolizing: "Ukraine will win, Ukraine above all!".

The constructive idea of this monument is vertical – the desire for the best, for perfection, for the peaks. It is built of blocks of different shapes. Each brick is different, like every person who, to the best of abilities and desires, works on the development of an independent Ukraine. The blocks are different on all sides and are stacked in steps, at a certain distance from each other: on one side it protrudes, on the other it fallsout. There are openings between them – windows. From the third side they look “deaf”. But this is symbolic, because, after all, this is a complex process: the construction of the State.
There is a capsule with a text which is laid in the foundation of the monument.
The material from which the monument is made is granite, red granite, solitude (ceramic mass).

During the installation of the monument in 2016, a reflection zone was equipped: lighting, benches with trash cans, a rose garden, a flower garden symbolizing the coat of arms of Ukraine, white cedars along the perimeter of the memorial zone, laid out with paving slabs. Accessible infrastructure: toilet, access to water and internet. Accessibility for groups with limited mobility, access roads and parking spaces are provided. Nearby, there are two shelters in case of an air raid alert: in the buildings of the Cultural and Leisure Center and in the CI «Kompaniivka Lyceum» of the Kompaniivska Village Council of the Kropyvnytskyi district of the Kirovohrad region.
This monument is not only for the fallen, it is for everyone who is trying, whether by desire, financially, or with their own hands, to bring Victory closer, which will allow them to build a new Ukraine in which they and their children, our descendants, will live.
